Last month, the Harrison Town Law Department launched an investigation into Olsey’s treatment of Det. Derka Abbate after she filed a complaint against the chief in December last year. Olsey was never suspended.

Abbate alleges that she was harassed for several years, but failed to step forward for fear it would limit the opportunities she or her husband - also a member of the Harrison Police Department - would have to move forward professionally.

No official reason was given for Olsey’s retirement. The investigation into Olsey’s actions is ongoing. It was not clear who would serve as the interim police chief following Olsey’s ousting.
